Yeah so, here's my bad ass rock.

I found it in my rarely traveled nature trail. Only about 5" of the pretty green was showing and that made me think it was special and had to come home with me. 30 minutes later and two bloody knuckles, I finally got it out of the ground by using my fingers and a sharp triangle shaped stone. It weighs about 7 lbs. and is about the size of a football.

Any ideas what it is? I can tell you right off the bat it really doesn't appear to be quartz. The green is very dense and appears that the entire rock is made of whatever it is, with the brown rock stuff over it.

It truly resembles jade or a cousin of jade, but I don't believe there is a lot of that in PA. And I don't believe that jade is even worth a whole lot, unless it comes from China and has purple in it or something....

There is a green rock, however, that is found in the caverns in this area so perhaps if I can find out what that is, this might be a big chunck of it.

Here is a smaller piece I found close by where I found the big rock. It is a little darker in color and may be a perfect specimen for the rock tumbler.

Sooo, any of you Gemologists, Mineralogists, Petrologist, Paleontologists, Stratigraphers, Geomorphologists, or any other all around rock guys out there have any ideas? I sure would appreciate it!

Comcast has been blocking my rock signal and all others. I'm turning to terrorism...
In the meantime- this is a splendid rock! Very very cool. My best guess is it is a kind of Green Stone (don't laugh). It's in the quartz family only harder. Jen and Kathy will remember that there is Isle Royale Greenstone and Lake Superior Greenstone. I think this is in that family. But I'm a know nothing. It would be fun to have the smaller piece tumbled and polished and see what comes up. Some places will do big rocks and they look cool with partial rough and partial shine.
A very fine rock indeed, Amy. Good find and digging. Will it go by your pond?
